Your family, no matter what size or stage, is worth artfully photographing now.

01. What and Why?

Time flies

These at-home sessions are designed to be a low stress way to document what this season of life looks like for your family, no matter what size or stage. From newlyweds to grandparents with a crowd of grand kiddos, your family is beautiful and worth seeing.

In an age of endless and mindless iPhone pictures, these sessions give you a beautiful opportunity to really slow down, be present, and soak in your family and the special-ness of this season.

At-home sessions are some of my absolute favorite work. They are honest, real, cozy, and are a beautiful way to document your family for generations to come.

- Think about your session like I'm just a friend coming over to drink some tea, hang out, and take some pictures of your family’s life.

- This is super low stakes. There is no pressure, snack breaks are so welcome, and there will be no forcing everyone to stare at my camera and smile.

- Warm-up time: when I first arrive, I’ll often sit down in the kitchen for a minute to chat and get to know everyone in an easy, friendly way. We don't need to jump right into shooting.

- All personalities are welcome. And your kids are not going to annoy me if they're particularly rowdy or shy, or anywhere in between.

02. Setting Expectations

Here are some helpful things to keep in mind:

your kids don't need to perform!

03. Session Planning

activities, concepts, and outfits

Holiday activity Inspiration

- Decorating the tree
- Hanging stockings
- Reading a favorite book on the couch together
- Decorating Christmas cookies
- Classic, heirloom family portraits on the front porch
- Lighting a fire in the fireplace or pit outside

Think about your real life, real traditions, and some of the times when you feel most connected.

Outfits

The single most helpful tip I've discovered when giving session outfit advice is this: wear stuff that makes sense for the location in which we're shooting. For an in-home session, this probably means a slightly more causal look, compared to taking photos in Tower Grove for your Christmas card.

This might look like jeans, cozy sweaters, bare feet, casual dresses, that kind of thing. Above all, WEAR STUFF THAT FEELS LIKE YOU! If you're not a dress person, don't wear a dress. If your 3 year old is currently obsessed with a particular pair of socks, let them wear the socks. Outfits are another super fun and special way we can document the quirky, beautiful details that make you and your family unique.

- think in terms of coordination, not matching
- add fun textures: sweaters, layers, etc.
- earthy colors are always safe
- pops of wild color are also so fun, especially if that feels natural for your family!
- a small pattern or two is great

Practical tips

send me photos of your outfit ideas if you want input!

- I lean heavily into a documentary style with in-home sessions. This means there will be a lot less posing than in a studio or outdoor session.

- I will set you and your family up in prompts or loose base poses ("hey, why don't you guys go cuddle up on the couch!" or "you guys want to show me how you're decorating your tree?!")

- I will guide you from there, paying attention to cool light, locations in your home, and how your family naturally interacts.

- I love incorporating a handful of more styled, editorial-feeling moments during in-home sessions too! These will be more specifically posed and can be so cool, in the context of your real home.

- Please feel free to talk during your whole session, and never feel like you're stuck frozen in a pose or prompt.

04. My Approach

Just to give you a heads up of my approach, and how your session will most likely unfold:

This is primarily about creating space for your family to genuinely connect and enjoy being around each other.
